About us
We Are Baxtons
Baxtons Sweets began in 1984, when Greek immigrant Steve Moutafis transformed his small Brakpan bakery, The Trust Bakery, into something entirely new.
What started as loaves of bread and a few jars of sweets soon became a full-time pursuit of flavour and joy.
To Steve, sweets weren’t just a product, they were small, everyday pleasures that brought people together.
Seeing an opportunity in the market for authentic, high-quality confectionery, Steve sold the bakery, invested in two toffee machines, and founded what would become one of South Africa’s longest-standing sweet manufacturers.
Steve was remembered as a visionary and risk-taker — a larger-than-life salesman with an instinct for opportunity and an unshakable belief in giving people more than they paid for. That belief still shapes the core of Baxtons today.
Sweets that deliver value you can taste, where every bite feels worth more than its price.

Our History
Heritage Story
Starting as a small local bakery, Baxtons gradually evolved into something new — a place where sweets weren’t just treats, but simple moments of flavour and fun.
With two toffee machines and a growing love for confectionery, the Baxtons brand began to take shape.
From apricot mallows to creamy toffees and colourful chews, our flavours became part of childhood memories, lunchbox moments, and corner-shop favourites across South Africa.
Today, Baxtons remains family-run and proudly local, continuing to make the same favourites South Africans know and love — while introducing new flavours for the next generation to enjoy.
